Renter's halloween!

Updated: Oct 14, 2019

If you live in a boring neighborhood which does not celebrate halloween, or you are in a apartment or renter you really have to brainstorm where to take your kid/s for trick or treat. We had a few lovely adventures exploring the options this Halloween!

I discovered a lot of kid entertainment places have halloween too.

I really was looking forward to celebrating halloween with my LO someday. So you can imagine how excited I was. I had always dreamt of going to Palo Alto. Palo Alto neighborhoods are flocked with storybook homes and always so decorated for the season. Basically just perfect like a children halloween movie from Hollywood.

A lil research and I got to know mostly people don't like to entertain stranger-kids (tiny bit of halloween spirit just died when I read reviews complaining on the same).

Anyways, moving on I needed to find a replacement to make our Halloween fun. I discovered a lot of kid entertainment places have halloween too. Example museums, zoo, pumpkin patch, malls, mom community centers (like Blossom birth) etc.

We selected to go to a Pumpkin Patch and Oakland Zoo.

#1 Pumpkin patch

Fremont's best pumpkin patch is Ardenwood Farms. I was under the impression pumpkin patches are basically just a place where all the pumpkins are stashed, you can buy them take pics for the fall look-n-feel and done!

I was pleasantly surprised. It had so many activities, it was tough to chose! Haystack pyramid, hay maze, hay balance beam, hay thrown, tractor ride, colored tire climbing maze. We could have easily spent the day there but we left just before lunch due to other commitments for the day.

Takeaway

You can easily spend the day here. Take a picnic lunch/finger food with you and some wet wipes to cleanup after.

Cons

Bathrooms can be an issue. Mostly they will have a port-a-potty propped around the venue.

#2 Oakland zoo

This was a lot of fun and lil educational too. There was a scavenger hunt to solve 5 clues that direct you to the animal enclosure to go to get your next stamp. At the end of collecting all the 5 stamps you can claim your goodie bag. Goodie bag was sponsored by Stanford Health Center, which had handful lovely healthy treats and a sticker sheet.

Other activity available was face painting. The regular animal show was halloween themed too. The best part that Bubu enjoyed was watching all the fun costumes other kids were dressed in. And majority of them did come in costumes as you got a free train ride, if dressed in a costume. Overall we enjoyed it and will repeat next year too.

Takeaway

You can easily spend the day here, which we did.

Cons

This event is in the morning so the costume can get hot depending on the climate. Carry extra pair of clothes to change into if its a warm day.
