A good exercise for the to-doer/s and, a brief introduction of some aquatic birds to the bubu's. Now who doesn't like to see a duck swim and waddle :)
Where: Lakeshore park | Chelsea Dr · Newark, CA
Open: Monday through Sunday | 5:00 AM to 08:00 PM
Visited: Sunday, July 1, 2018 | 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM
A joyful cry “aaa,” is how my Bubu expressed he was enjoying the sight of a brace of ducks waddle with their young spring babies. Yellow and grey ducklings quacked too, probably in excitement, to see a human baby.
This activity was a part of my Meetup group To-do With Bubu, feel free to join if it interests you. It's a pleasant 30-40 mins brisk walk along this beautiful lake, with a stroller. It has few different varieties of birds goose, ducks, seagulls, cranes, etc. The lake also has a few islands in it. Some hold just a couple of trees and one big one which has some homes on it. I know right, what an awesome backyard view some are blessed with.
Activities we did
#1 Saw some remote-operated boats
We arrived sharp at 10:30 am, Sunday morning. As we pulled the car into the parking lot, we saw a few elderly gentlemen were practicing with toy electric boats in the lake. As any bubu love's anything that moves, mine gave his cry of excitement. We stood there watching the 3 boats as they meandered in the lake to-and-fro. So, Sunday morning is a good time to go get this bonus activity.
#2 Walk
Next, we walked around the the lake. Bubu kept yelling "aaa" in excitement to see all the birds. Best is, if you can manage images of these bird in the form of a picture book, save pics on phone or print, beforehand. I have noticed if I have a 2D version to show and then show the real thing that really excites my Bubu.
#3 Read
Title: Splish, splash, Ducky! by Lucy Cousins
I had also got along with me a story book on a duck. Pretty nice book. Has repeated quack quack on every page which bubu's who talk will love to repeat with you. Its got an action words on each page like swim, jump, hop, hug etc which is nice for bubu's to enact and make the experience more interactive. The duck meets a different animal/insects on each page which is again a good exposure for the lil one. And cherry on the cake is, it's got a nice value moral of finding happiness in every situation. Win win!
Grab this book if you are a member of the Fremont, CA library, thats where we got ours from.
Cons
No park etc to play on after the walk. They do have few benches and patches of green to play ball etc.
As it has all these waddling birds like any lake park its covered in bird poop. So carry wet wipes or something to clean the stroller wheels after your stroll.
